Nobel Brothers Batumi Technological Museum

Технологический музей братьев Нобелей в Батуми — это уникальное место, которое рассказывает не о знаменитой премии, а о той деятельности, которая и сделала возможным ее учреждение. Основанный в 2007 году, музей расположен в историческом здании по адресу улица Леселидзе, 3, где в конце XIX — начале XX века находилась батумская контора «Товарищества нефтяного производства братьев Нобель». Именно их революционная деятельность превратила Батуми в один из важнейших нефтяных портов мира и дала мощнейший толчок развитию города.

The museum's exposition immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the "oil rush" of that era. The first floor presents materials related to the activities of the Nobel brothers as well as their competitors, the Rothschilds and Mantashev. Here you can see historic photographs, documents, oil pipeline maps, scale models of the world's first oil tankers and cisterns, as well as product samples in branded bottles. The exhibits clearly demonstrate how the Nobels' innovative approaches to logistics and transportation of Baku oil through Batumi transformed the global economy.

The second floor of the museum expands the narrative, highlighting other technological and cultural achievements that came to Adjara in that era. Separate halls are dedicated to the history of tea culture development, founded by the Chinese specialist Lao Jin Jao, as well as the history of winemaking and printing in the region. In addition, the museum exhibits valuable works by the pioneer of color photography in the Russian Empire, Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, who captured the image of early 20th-century Georgia.

Visiting this museum is an opportunity to see another, industrial side of resort Batumi's history and understand the role played in its destiny by the global oil business. The museum is conveniently located near the central railway station. It operates daily except Mondays, usually from 10:00 to 18:00, and admission is very affordable.
