Writers' House of Georgia

The Writers' House of Georgia is one of the most luxurious mansions in the Sololaki district and one of the finest examples of early 20th-century urban architecture. The building was constructed in 1903–1905 according to a design by German architect Carl Zaar for entrepreneur and philanthropist David Sarajishvili. The mansion's facade combines elements of Art Nouveau and Baroque, and the house itself is considered one of the architectural gems of old Tbilisi.

In the early 20th century, the mansion was one of the city's most modern residential buildings. Electric lighting, central heating, and cutting-edge engineering systems were utilized here. The interiors were adorned with stained-glass windows, carved wooden staircases, stucco moldings, and decorative elements commissioned from European craftsmen. Following Sarajishvili's death, industrialist Akaki Khoshtaria became the owner of the house, and the mansion continued to remain one of the main cultural centers of Tiflis.

После установления советской власти здание национализировали и передали Союзу писателей Грузии. Именно тогда за особняком закрепилось современное название. В разные годы здесь бывали Владимир Маяковский, Борис Пастернак, Сергей Есенин и другие известные литераторы. Сегодня здание продолжает использоваться для культурных мероприятий, а его интерьеры считаются одними из самых красивых в Тбилиси. Особую известность получила терраса с оригинальной плиткой немецкой компании Villeroy & Boch, которая сохранилась с начала XX века.
