Georgia’s largest private art museum with a collection of over 3500 works of Georgian art from the 20th–21st centuries.
The Georgian Museum of Fine Arts opened in 2018 on Rustaveli Avenue, becoming the first major private art museum in the country. The basis of its collection is the compilation of George Jokhtaberidze and Manana Shevardnadze, which they formed over several decades. Today, the museum houses more than 3500 works of Georgian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The main exhibition is dedicated to Georgian artists of the past century, including representatives of unofficial Soviet art, avant-garde, theatrical art, and book illustration. The collection showcases works by Natela Iankoshvili, Irakli Parjiani, Duda Gabashvili, Tamaz Kakabadze, and Sergei Parajanov. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum regularly holds temporary exhibits, lectures, film screenings, and educational programs.
The museum building was specially designed as a modern exhibition space. Its architecture blends massive stone elements with large glass surfaces, allowing natural light into the halls.
The museum is open daily. An admission ticket for foreign visitors costs 40 GEL, for children aged 6 to 18 it is 15 GEL. Preferential rates apply for Georgian citizens and residents: 15 GEL for adults and 8 GEL for schoolchildren, students, and seniors. Admission is free for a number of visitor categories.
