Chronicle of Georgia Memorial

A monumental complex with columns and bas-reliefs dedicated to the history of Georgia.

The Chronicle of Georgia is a memorial on a hill beside the Tbilisi Sea reservoir. Construction began in 1985 designed by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. The monument consists of 16 columns rising up to 35 meters in height, cast from metal and mounted on concrete bases. At the foot is a plaza featuring the "Thirteen Assyrian Fathers" sculptures, from where a stairway leads to the upper level with the cross of Saint Nino and a small church.

The columns are divided into three levels. The lower portion depicts scenes from the life of Christ: the Annunciation, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. The middle level is dedicated to historical figures: King Mirian, David the Builder, Queen Tamar, Shota Rustaveli, and Ilia Chavchavadze. The upper portion shows scenes from daily life: grape harvesting, celebrations, and episodes from Georgian literature, including "The Martyrdom of Saint Shushanik".

The complex is open to the public free of charge. The grounds are used as a walking area and an observation deck overlooking the reservoir and the city.
