A cool bamboo grove with tall green arches where urban noise virtually dissolves amid dense foliage.
The Bamboo Grove on Batumi Boulevard is one of the most unusual green corners of the park. Tall bamboo stalks form a real natural tunnel, creating dense shade and cool even on the hottest days. The grove appeared here in the 1970s and quickly became a popular spot for strolls and relaxation away from the bustling waterfront.
Despite its appearance, bamboo is considered not a tree, but the largest grass in the world. Some stalks in the grove reach the height of a three-story building, and during periods of active growth can shoot up by dozens of centimeters a day. Thanks to dense thickets and humid air, it is always slightly cooler inside the grove than in the rest of the boulevard, and city noise is barely audible here.
Older and younger canes vary in coloration and texture: some remain vibrant green and smooth, while others lighten and form delicate fissures over time. The rustle of bamboo in the breeze and dense verdure cultivate the feel of a small subtropical garden right in downtown Batumi.
