A picturesque Orthodox monastery on Mount Sameba overlooking the Batumi coast.
Sameba Church is not merely a church, but an entire male monastic complex featuring a belfry and chapels, situated on Mount Sameba in Adjara. The site attracts worshippers and sightseers alike, offering an exceptional combination of sacred architecture, serene atmosphere, and stunning mountain landscapes. The church is located roughly 8-10 km from downtown Batumi, but the trip is thoroughly worthwhile.
One of the main highlights of Sameba is the observation platform situated at an elevation of about 400 meters. Magnificent panoramic views open up from it over the entire Batumi coast, iconic landmarks such as the Ferris wheel, Alphabet Tower, Ali and Nino sculpture, and the city port. This is an ideal spot for lovers of beautiful photos, peace, and nature.
A modest dress code applies when visiting the temple, especially during church services. If you need to cover up, special wraps are available on site. The temple is open for free visiting, and regular services are held on Saturdays. Working hours vary depending on season: in summer from 10:00-19:00, in winter from 10:00-17:00. You can reach Sameba by minibus No. 449 from the Old Batumi Bus Station, departures every 2 hours, and the journey takes about 30 minutes. It is recommended to set aside about 1-1.5 hours for the visit, especially in good weather.
