Batumi Summer Theatre

This unique wooden structure attracts attention with its original style, carved ornaments and bright colors, being the center of cultural life and entertainment on the embankment.

The history of the theater goes back to the post-war years. The first building, built in 1947, was a true masterpiece of "Stalinist baroque". This theater, designed for 800 seats, even managed to "star" in the famous film "The Twelve Chairs". For more than half a century, it was one of the symbols of Batumi, which locals affectionately compared to the magical ship Argo.
Unfortunately, in 2001, a fire destroyed this historical building. However, the city did not accept the loss, and in 2013, the Summer Theater was revived thanks to the architect Goča Garucava. The new building has retained the general concept and mood of its predecessor, where elements of the original architecture and modern solutions are now combined. The theater has become more spacious, has acquired many windows, although without glass, which creates a feeling of unity with nature.

The Summer Theatre is a popular venue for a variety of events. It hosts concerts by pop stars, festivals (including international ones, such as the Golden Fleece), theatre productions, performances by folk ensembles and children's studios. It is a place to get acquainted with Georgian folklore, traditional songs and dances, and enjoy contemporary art.
