The central embankment of Tbilisi along the Mtkvari River, named in honor of the first head of government of independent Georgia.
Noe Zhordania Embankment runs along the Kura River in central Tbilisi and connects historic city districts with modern waterfront public spaces. Today it is one of the main urban thoroughfares, offering views of the Metekhi cliff, Rike Park, the Bridge of Peace, and old Avlabari quarters. The embankment plays a vital role in the city’s transport network, linking several key districts of the Georgian capital.
The embankment was named after Noe Zhordania, head of government of the First Georgian Republic, which existed from 1918 to 1921. He became one of the key political figures of Georgia's period of independence and led the country until the establishment of Soviet power. Following the events of 1921, Zhordania left Georgia and spent the rest of his life in France.
Today walking areas, viewing platforms, and convenient exits to the main attractions of central Tbilisi are located along the embankment. From here, the contemporary buildings of Rike Park, the historic architecture of Old Town, and the banks of the Mtkvari, which remained the heart of urban life for many centuries, are clearly visible.
