A picturesque lake in May 6 Park in central Batumi, bordered by avenues, a zoo, and rest areas. A popular spot for strolls, boating, and family picnics.
Lake Nuri Geli, also known as Pioneer Lake, is a natural water body located in the very center of Batumi in May 6 Park, just meters from the Black Sea. In the 19th century, a marsh existed on its site, but thanks to the efforts of gardeners, it was transformed into a beautiful urban garden. In 1933, it became "Children’s Park", and later "Pioneer Park", with wide avenues and a zoo.
A tragic legend is tied to the lake's name. According to tradition, a young girl named Nuri drowned in the lake, and her mother would come to the water every day, calling out: "Nuri, Geli (I am waiting)". That is how the lake got its name. The lake has an area of about 5.5 hectares, with a depth reaching 7-8 meters. The lake's perimeter is approximately 1030 meters, making it ideal for leisurely walks.
Around the lake you can find plenty of entertainment. Here you can rent a boat or catamaran. Nearby are a zoo, children's playgrounds, cafes, an aquarium, and a dolphinarium. This place is ideal for picnics and family recreation. The walking route around the lake is especially beautiful in the early morning or during the evening 'golden hour', when the light is particularly soft.
