Monument to the gardener whose efforts transformed Batumi Boulevard into a green subtropical park by the sea.
The Monument to Iason Gordeziani is dedicated to one of the key gardeners of Batumi Boulevard, who spent many years landscaping the city and developing the seaside park. The sculpture depicts Gordeziani standing in a gardener's work uniform with tool pockets and holding a potted plant in his hands. The monument was installed among the green alleys of the boulevard in 2018, serving as a reminder of the people who transformed Batumi into a famous subtropical resort.
It was Iason Gordeziani who worked on adapting exotic plants to the humid marine climate and helped preserve the park during periods of severe storms and challenging weather conditions. Thanks to such specialists, bamboo groves, palms, and rare conifers appeared on the boulevard. One of the most unusual details of the monument became a real flower in a bronze pot: plants here are regularly changed depending on the season.
The sculpture is created without a high pedestal, evoking the sensation that the gardener simply paused to rest amidst the park he created. Beside the figure rests a bronze umbrella, recalling the changeable coastal weather and the daily work of those who tended the boulevard.
