Lady with a Dog on a Bicycle Sculpture

The "Lady with a Dog on a Bicycle" sculpture is one of the most recognizable compositions along Batumi Boulevard. A bronze young lady in a long dress rides a vintage bicycle holding a delicate lace parasol, with a small dog seated behind her. The sculpture was created by Georgian artist Irakli Zhvania and installed here in 2012. The composition stands in the center of a circular fountain amidst the boulevard's green alleys and has long been a popular destination for strolls and photo sessions.

The main feature of the fountain is the moving bicycle wheels. Water jets are aimed directly at the spokes, causing the wheels to spin constantly and create an effect of real motion. It seems as though the girl is truly riding across the water surface. This composition recalls the early 20th century, when Batumi was a fashionable European resort and bicycle rides along the boulevard were considered a symbol of elegance and high status.

The sculpture looks especially beautiful in the evening when the fountain illumination turns on. The light reflects in the water and metal details of the bicycle, creating the ambiance of an old resort town. Today it is one of the most romantic and recognizable spots on Batumi Boulevard.
