Heydar Aliyev Square

Heydar Aliyev Square is a landscaped green zone located in the historic Abanotubani district, next to the legendary sulfur baths. The square was inaugurated in 2004, becoming an important symbol of friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan. A monument to Azerbaijani statesman and public figure Heydar Aliyev stands at the center of the park, while the surrounding grounds are arranged as a cozy recreation spot for city residents and tourists.

The square's grounds feature thoughtful landscape design: ornamental trees and shrubs are planted here, neat flowerbeds laid out, and comfortable benches installed. Nestled in a cozy hollow at the base of the hill, the park is an excellent place to look up and admire the imposing Narikala Fortress and distinctive dwellings with carved balconies perched above the gorge.

In the evening, the square is illuminated with soft lights, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere. It is an ideal spot to pause during a walk through Old Town, enjoy the quiet, and admire the capital's architectural contrasts. Proximity to major tourist routes makes it a popular itinerary point, uniting history, politics, and natural beauty in one space.
