A lake of volcanic origin on the northern side of the Arsiani Mountain Ridge, at an elevation of about 2058 meters above sea level.
Green Lake is one of the most beautiful natural gems of mountainous Adjara. This emerald lake is located on the slope of the Arsiani Ridge, at an elevation of about 2058 meters above sea level, near Goderdzi Pass. The depth of the lake reaches approximately 19 meters. Its water is crystal clear, slightly mineralized, and suitable for drinking. The lake receives water from underground springs and melting snow, which makes the water ice-cold and impossible to swim in. It is worth noting that no fish live in the lake. The color of the water is a natural emerald green, free from impurities and algae, with shades changing depending on the day and weather, perfectly reflecting the mountain air and surrounding Arsiani forests.
The lake is encircled by mixed coniferous and deciduous forests, creating scenic vistas. In late summer, wild blackberries can be found here. The Green Lake is located approximately 110–116 km from Batumi, and the drive to it takes about 3 hours by car. You can reach it in a jeep along a dirt road. If you prefer walking, the hiking route from Goderdzi Pass takes about 1 hour (approximately 5–6 km).
The best time to visit the Green Lake is from late May to the first half of October. During this period, the most favorable weather conditions prevail and the road is accessible. In winter, the path to the lake may be closed due to snow. There are no cafes or toilets near the lake, so it is recommended to bring water, snacks, and, if needed, a tent for camping. Lake Tbikeli is a true natural masterpiece of Adjara, where crystal clear water and mountain air create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. This is an ideal spot for eco-hikes, picnics, and enjoying pristine beauty.
