A museum preserving a small collection of Georgian and Adjarian art, bringing together painting, graphic arts, and sculpture from different eras.
Adjara State Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most important centers of contemporary Georgian culture. The museum building, itself a monument of cultural heritage, was built in 1949 according to the design of famous Georgian architect Kakha Javakhishvili. Its austere yet refined facade, executed in the Stalinist Empire style, is decorated with an expressive relief frieze by outstanding sculptor Tamar Abakelia, while the interior impresses with a grand staircase and ornamental stained glass inspired by motifs of medieval Georgian architecture.
Currently, the museum houses around 400 exhibits: works by famous Georgian painters such as Pirosmani, Gudiashvili, and Kakabadze; fine engravings, expressive sculptures, and installations; exhibitions by young Georgian artists, and a small collection of works by foreign masters.
The exhibition is located on two floors and covers different eras: from antiquity to the present day. At the same time, the museum is compact and convenient to visit: getting acquainted with its collection takes only 20–30 minutes, which allows you to easily include it in any route.
