Europe Square

The heart of the city, where its cultural and social life pulsates, it is one of the most popular and attractive spaces for both tourists and locals.
The square is fascinating with its architectural ensemble, where historical buildings of the 19th-20th centuries and more modern buildings are elegantly combined. These buildings are made in various styles with elements of European and Georgian architecture. Around the square there are cozy cafes and restaurants, designer boutiques, art galleries and hotels, which makes it an ideal place to relax and get to know the city. Nearby there is a tower with a unique astronomical clock, showing not only the time, but also astronomical data.
The central place in the square is occupied by the majestic statue of Medea, the daughter of the King of Colchis, holding the Golden Fleece in her hands – a symbol of the greatness and cultural development of ancient Colchis. This monument by David Khmaladze recalls the ancient Greek myth of the Argonauts and emphasizes Georgia’s deep historical ties with European civilization. In summer, the square’s special charm is given by a large fountain, in whose streams children love to play.

Europe Square is not only a place for walks and photo sessions, but also the center of the most important city events: concerts of world stars (such as Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Enrique Iglesias), folklore festivals, celebrations of the City Day "Batumoba", colorful Christmas fairs and New Year's festivities are held here.
