Zoo

The Batumi Zoo is located on the territory of the 6th of May Park. Although it is often called a zoo corner due to its compact size, it has a rich history dating back more than a hundred years. Founded back in 1898, it celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2023! After reconstruction in 2006, its territory expanded, and the collection of animals became more diverse.

The zoo is divided into several sectors — admission to many sectors is absolutely free. Right at the central entrance, guests are greeted by the kingdom of primates: here you can watch mischievous macaques, proud baboons, exotic mandrills and funny lemurs, who happily climb branches and look at visitors with curiosity. Birds are represented by bright exotic parrots, whose voices can be heard from afar, as well as eagles, vultures and peacocks. Ungulates live in other sectors: antelopes, deer, roe deer, zebras and a small herd of ponies. Many of them are accustomed to people and can come very close, allowing themselves to be hand-fed. The location with small rodents — rabbits and guinea pigs — is especially popular with children.

Despite its modest size, the zoo surprises and delights visitors of all ages. It is always clean, there is a lot of greenery, and the animals have cozy shelters from the weather. Situated next to Lake Nurigeli, the dolphinarium and the aquarium, the Batumi Zoo is a great place for a quiet walk and getting to know the world of animals right in the center of the city.
