Park 6th of May

In the middle of bustling Batumi lies the May 6 Park, one of the oldest and most beloved green spaces in the city. Founded in 1881, it was originally named Aleksandrovsky Park, in honor of Emperor Alexander III, who personally visited it in 1888 and planted trees there with his wife. The park received its current name in memory of the events of May 6, 2004, when a revolution took place in Adjara, leading to the resignation of local leader Aslan Abashidze.

The heart of the park is the picturesque Nurigeli Lake, whose name, according to legend, is associated with the tragic story of the drowned boy Nuri. Today it is a favorite place for recreation: here you can ride boats or catamarans, watch fishermen and turtles, or just sit on a bench by the water under the shade of weeping willows. In the evening, a tall fountain is turned on in the center of the lake, and its streams are illuminated with multi-colored lights.

The entrance to the park is decorated with a majestic white colonnade in the Greek style, built in the Stalin era and becoming one of the symbols of the park. A monument to the first Adjarian pilot Fadiko Gogitidze is installed near the colonnade. The park territory is rich not only in greenery and cozy paths, but also in various attractions: there is a sundial, an original fountain "Hanging Stone", sculptures and art objects.

The 6th of May Park is an ideal place for family recreation. It is home to the famous Batumi Dolphinarium, a small zoo with a variety of animals (kangaroos, lemurs, zebras, peacocks and others), an aquarium and children's attractions. Due to its convenient location in the city center, next to Batumi Boulevard, the park is easily accessible and is a popular place for leisurely walks and outdoor recreation, as well as for active entertainment.
