Piazza Square

An Italian-style square where cultural events take place and an atmosphere of European coziness reigns.

The Piazza opened in 2010 and quickly became one of the most recognizable symbols of the city and a center of attraction for tourists and locals alike. The square occupies about 5,700 square meters. The space was conceived by Georgian architect Vazha Orbeladze as a corner of Italy in Georgia, and its design evokes associations with famous Venetian and Florentine squares.

The architecture of the Piazza is designed in a uniform style, reminiscent of Italian palazzos, with elegant facades, arches and balconies. The stained glass windows created by Estonian artist Dolores Hoffman add special charm to the buildings. An elegant clock tower rises above the square, housing a boutique hotel. Every hour the tower announces the surrounding area with a melodic chime, and during the day, starting at 12:00 every three hours, dancing figures appear to the sound of the bells. The central part of the square is decorated with one of the largest marble mosaics in Europe, created by Natalia Amirejibi de Pita. This impressive work of art is made from hundreds of thousands of pieces of marble collected from fifteen countries. The pattern depicts sea gods and eight circles of different diameters, which symbolize the eternal movement of the sea.

Piazza Square is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also the center of a vibrant city life. It is surrounded by cozy cafes, restaurants serving Georgian and European cuisine, and bars where live music is often played in the evenings. Piazza looks especially magical in the evening, when the artistic lighting is turned on, creating a cozy and romantic atmosphere. This is a place where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, listen to music, admire the architecture and feel like you are in a little Italy in the middle of hospitable Batumi.
