Batumi, Georgia's main Black Sea resort, is famous not only for its lively promenade and colorful architecture, but also for its variety of beaches.
The beach season in Batumi lasts from May to October, peaking in July and August, when the water temperature reaches a comfortable +25 to +27°C. During this time, the coast fills with vacationers seeking cool relief in the sea waves and wishing to enjoy all the pleasures of resort life.
In this article, we cover the zones of the Batumi city beach and the beaches in the surrounding area, helping you choose the ideal place for your beach holiday.
Table of contents:
If you enjoy comfort and entertainment, Batumi's central city beaches with their numerous cafes, restaurants, and water attractions are an excellent choice. To swim and sunbathe, you do not need to travel far, and entertainment is available for both children and adults.
Batumi city beach is not just a single section, but a whole chain of beach zones stretching along the 7-kilometer promenade. To make navigation easier, the main coast can be divided into 4 zones: the Central zone, Suburban zone, New Boulevard zone, and Wild zone.

The heart of beachside Batumi is rightfully considered the Central zone, which brings together popular beaches: Iveria, the beach near the pier, My Black Sea, and many others. Unlike more secluded suburban areas, all conditions for a comfortable holiday are created here. The central beaches are clean and well-maintained, although keeping ideal order largely depends on the responsibility of the visitors themselves.
Features. The coastline reaches 40 meters wide, with a large flow of tourists resting here, attracted by the developed infrastructure. An important advantage for family recreation is the gently sloping bottom, unlike the steeper shore in the New Boulevard area.
Amenities and entertainment. In the central zone of the city beach, all necessary amenities for a comfortable rest await you:
Cozy cafes and bars are located along the promenade, where you can try local delicacies such as khachapuri and fresh seafood. For lovers of active recreation, various water activities are available, such as riding jet skis, catamarans, and banana boats.
Iveria Beach. This beach is famous for its cozy atmosphere, cleanliness, and high level of service. It is the only paid beach in Batumi: an entrance ticket (about 30 GEL) includes rental of an umbrella, sun lounger, and towel. Here you can order food and drinks directly to your lounger while enjoying house music. Iveria is a favorite spot for partygoers, as the club “Iveria Beach” is located here, where top DJs perform.
Children's Beach. The beach is located next to the famous sculpture “Ali and Nino” and is ideal for families with children. The smooth descent into the sea makes swimming safe even for toddlers, and breakwaters protect against large waves, creating a calm environment. Due to the shallow depth, the water warms up quickly and remains crystal clear.
The beach is especially popular among married couples who value order and comfort. Special areas are equipped for children's games and entertainment, as well as places for recreation in the shade.

For those who value a comfortable beach holiday, the Suburban zone is not the best choice. The lack of developed infrastructure and noise from the roadway running along the coast make this place less attractive, especially for families with children. Instead of relaxation and pleasure, resting here can turn into a source of constant worry. Finding a cafe or restaurant can also become a task that requires time and effort.
Features. A narrow coastline, with its width not exceeding 20 meters, creates a feeling of crowding, especially during the peak season. The descent into the sea has a rather steep drop in depth, and the water is not as clear as in other parts of the city. Infrastructure is poorly developed: there are few cafes and rental points, although in summer you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas.
Perhaps the only advantage of this location is its proximity to the Opera House, which may interest lovers of cultural leisure. However, for a full beach holiday, it is worth considering other, more well-equipped beach zones of Batumi.

Beaches in the new part of Batumi, such as Cacao, Aquapark, and Boom Boom, are less popular among tourists compared to central areas. This is due to their distance from the historic city center and a steeper descent into the sea. An additional factor influencing the choice of vacationers is the proximity of the Chorokhi River. The river current sometimes brings debris to the coast, which can affect water cleanliness.
Features. The length of the coastline here is somewhat shorter than in the Central part, amounting to about 30 km. The entrance to the sea is steeper, so families with young children should exercise increased vigilance.
Among the advantages of this zone is its proximity to the Dancing Fountains and the water park. This makes it possible to combine a beach holiday with an entertainment program, for example, a walk along the boulevard and a visit to the fountains.

The Wild beach is a spacious coastal strip up to 30 meters wide, attracting visitors with its seclusion. It is noticeably quieter and calmer here than on city beaches, although the proximity of the airport adds its own special feature: the opportunity to watch airplanes take off and land.
Features. This beach does not have developed infrastructure: there are no cafes, sun loungers, or water activities. However, for those who value silence, space, and natural beauty, the Wild beach can be a real find. It is worth noting that the entrance into the sea here can be uneven, and the condition of the water sometimes leaves much to be desired.
If you are looking for a quieter and more secluded holiday, the beaches around Batumi are an excellent option. Reaching these picturesque places is easy: city minibuses run regularly, and a taxi will cost very little.

The cozy Gonio beach, about 2 km long and located in a picturesque resort village, is considered one of the best beaches of Batumi. This corner is ideal for those who are tired of city bustle and are looking for peace and seclusion. Comfortable and cozy, it attracts tourists with its clean coast, transparent water, and scenic views of the mountains and the sea.
Features. Gonio Beach, like many others in this region, is covered with rather large pebbles. Therefore, it is recommended to have special footwear to avoid discomfort when walking along the shore. The entrance into the sea is rather steep and the shallow water zone is very small, so it becomes deep just a few meters out. The seabed is rocky, and the water is clean and clear.
Amenities and entertainment. The resort infrastructure of Gonio Beach is actively developing, making it one of the most comfortable vacation spots in Batumi. Here you will find everything you need for an enjoyable time, from beach equipment rental to various entertainment options.
For lovers of active recreation, Gonio offers a wide choice of paid entertainment:
Cafes and cozy little restaurants serving Georgian cuisine are located on the beach. The adjacent areas are often equipped with awnings and hammocks where you can relax after a hearty lunch.

Sarpi Beach is located 20 kilometers from Batumi in a small village right at the border with Turkey. It is popular among Georgians and tourists for its crystal clear water and affordable prices.
Features. Sarpi's coastline, stretching for about half a kilometer, is a pebble beach 40-50 meters wide. Its location makes it a symbolic border between the two countries. Here, standing on the shore, you are literally with one foot in Georgia, and the other almost in Turkey!
The hallmark of the beach is two rocks rising out of the water. They serve both as natural diving platforms for daredevils plunging into the sea, and as sunbathing platforms with panoramic views.
It is worth noting that the sea depth here increases quite quickly, which can be an important factor for vacationers with children or those who feel uncertain in the water.
Amenities and entertainment. Along the beach and on adjacent streets there are cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite and refresh yourself, as well as small shops with necessary goods and currency exchange offices.
For a comfortable beach holiday, the following are provided:
A slight inconvenience may be the need to cross the road to access some shops and cafes located on the side opposite the beach.

Green Cape (Mtsvane Kontskhi) is one of the most picturesque beaches of Adjara, located just 9 kilometers northeast of the city.
Features. The beach of Green Cape begins near the entrance to the Botanical Garden and stretches as a narrow strip for approximately 500 meters. It is surrounded by mountains abundantly covered with southern greenery. It is a cozy, secluded place with a pebble surface and emerald-green sea.
A wooden decking is laid along the beach, making it convenient for walking. The entrance into the sea is gentle, but not very comfortable due to large pebbles, so it is recommended to use special swimming footwear.
The beach is uncrowded; its main visitors are families with children, tourists wishing to escape the city bustle, local residents, and guests of the botanical garden.
Amenities and entertainment. The infrastructure of Green Cape is not as developed as in the center of Batumi, but it has everything necessary for a comfortable stay:
There are no water sports at Green Cape, but you can go on a fascinating walk through the botanical garden. This is a great opportunity to see rare plant species and enjoy magnificent views of the sea and mountains.

Kvariati Beach is an ideal place for those seeking a quiet vacation away from the city bustle, but with comfortable infrastructure.
Features. Kvariati is a wide, up to 50 meters, well-equipped beach strip about a kilometer long. To the north it borders Gonio Beach, and to the south it is separated by a rocky ledge from Sarpi Beach. The coast here is always clean and well-kept, covered with large pebbles.
The sea in Kvariati is deep, crystal clear, and rich in marine life. There are even remains of sunken ships here, which is why snorkeling is popular in this area. The southern part of the beach attracts lovers of quiet and seclusion, although it is not the most convenient for swimming. On the other hand, the northern part, with a gentle descent into the water, is ideal for swimming and often becomes a spot for family holidays.
Amenities and entertainment. The beach area in Kvariati is well equipped, with everything necessary for a comfortable stay:
For fans of water entertainment, available activities include: riding banana boats and water skis; water scooters and catamarans; boat excursions; parasailing.
At the beginning of the Kvariati beach zone, next to the cliffs, is the only diving center in Georgia. After undergoing special training, you can try various types of dives here or go snorkeling with a mask and fins. All necessary diving equipment is available for rent.

Ureki is a health resort located just an hour's drive from Batumi. This beach is known not only for its soft black sand, but also for its healing properties.
Features. The main feature of Ureki is its magnetic sand, which contains many beneficial minerals, including magnetite, titanomagnetite, monazite, and zircon. Thanks to this composition, a natural low-intensity magnetic field is created on the beach, which has healing properties.
The sand of Ureki retains heat for a long time and transfers it evenly to the body, dilating blood vessels and improving tissue nutrition. Many people come here specifically for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, and nervous disorders. Sand baths are especially effective in August, when the sand temperature reaches 28 degrees, creating ideal conditions for therapeutic effects.
The beach features a gently sloping entrance into the sea, which makes it safe for children. You will have to walk about 300 meters from the shore to find yourself at a depth where you cannot stand.
Amenities and entertainment. In recent years, the resort's infrastructure has improved significantly:
Along the main street, there are establishments offering various cuisines, including traditional Georgian dishes. Especially noteworthy are the restaurants near the beach that serve fresh seafood. Among the popular establishments are Magnetico, Sea Breeze Restaurant, and Sunset Cafe.
For active vacationers, various water activities are available: riding jet skis and catamarans, kitesurfing, parasailing, and water slides.

Tsikhisdziri Beach is a small, cozy corner at the foot of the cliff on which the ruins of the ancient Petra Fortress and the Castello Mare hotel are located. Despite the popularity of the fortress among tourists, the beach itself remains little-known, which makes it especially attractive for those seeking seclusion.
Features. Getting to the beach is not so simple: it is hidden from view and requires a short walk through a subtropical forest. However, the efforts are completely justified: this is a place with clean water, fine pebbles, and a calm atmosphere. Even at the height of the season, the beach remains practically deserted. The main vacationers here are guests of the Castello Mare hotel, as the beach is virtually considered its territory. However, it is not fenced off, and if desired, you can reach it from the outside as well.
Tsikhisdziri Beach is notable for its natural beauty and cleanliness. The fine pebble cover makes it comfortable for relaxing. It is worth taking into account that the beach has one feature: a strong current. It is capable of imperceptibly carrying you 30-40 meters north of the spot where you entered the water. Because of this, it is especially important to watch children and not leave them in the water unattended.
Amenities and entertainment. There is no infrastructure on the beach. The hotel provides sun loungers and umbrellas only for guests near the pools. Therefore, if you plan to spend time here, it is better to take a towel, a sun umbrella, as well as food and water with you.
Besides beach recreation, Tsikhisdziri has interesting sights:
Regardless of which beach you choose, a vacation on the coast of Adjara will give you lasting impressions.
Exploring the surroundings, you discover not only new beaches, but also new facets of Adjara, enjoying the beauty of nature, the hospitality of local residents, and the unique atmosphere of this region. Away from the city bustle, you will be able to truly relax, enjoy the clean sea, and feel harmony with the world around you.
Come to Batumi to create your own vivid memories of the azure sea, warm sun, and amazing Georgia!
